How important is a frame to a work of art? What happens if we remove it? Or conversely: what happens if we simply look at the frame itself? Frames explores this relationship between the frame and the artwork by placing Not Standing’s physical art within outdoor visual frames. Alexander Vantournhout and his three partners create constantly evolving body sculptures within the viewing frames. Bodies intertwine, hang, and climb the frames, walk upside down, and defy gravity as well as your imagination. Every movement is a constant search for balance, focused on cooperation and body control. Frames invites you to explore choreographed installations that challenge artistic and visual perspectives, transforming them into physical poetry within the public space.

How defining is a frame for a painting? What if you remove the frame? Or vice versa: what if you remove the artwork and just look at the frame? *Frames* explores this relationship between frame and art, placing Not Standing’s physical movement art within outdoor visual frames. Alexander Vantournhout and his three co-performers build ever-changing body sculptures within the viewing frames. Bodies intertwine, hang from, and climb on the frames; they walk upside down and defy both gravity and your imagination. Each movement is a continuous search for balance, focusing on cooperation and body control. Frames invites you on a journey through choreographic installations that challenge and blend art and viewing perspectives into physical poetry in the public space.
