The sound of a bell rings out, like a rallying cry. Silhouettes emerge—part shepherd, part revolutionary—and gather us together to lead us on a clandestine procession. A first song gently envelops us. The chorus swells, grows, and becomes powerful, standing up to the demands of an increasingly authoritarian world. Through a cappella singing, L’Armée du Chahut draws the audience into an attempt at emancipation, with strength and gentleness, humor and poetry. Is collective emotion the final act of resistance?
A bell rings out. Then another. Like a rallying cry. Individual figures come together, gathering us to embark on an uncertain journey. Then, like a shout, comes the first song. Followed by another, then another. Imperceptibly, the sound grows and becomes powerful, monopolizing all attention and defying the orders. For such is the purpose of this pastoral choir: to establish a sensitive and abrupt discourse in public space—sometimes melodious, sometimes punk, tender or brutal—a murmur that turns into heckling.
