“Léila, the Story of an Escape” is a hybrid work that confronts vertigo and absurdity through wobbly feats, lyrical performances, richly realized characters, and unique dances. An epic blending dance, theater, and absurdity in which we follow the character of Léila, “a well-meaning young adult who loves adventure.” The story begins one evening when she hears a speech by Bruce Lee on the radio—“Be water, my friend”—and it is a revelation for Léila, who then decides to set out on the path to her “liquid state.” Nothing will stop her now. It’s a matter of life and death. “Maybe you don’t know yet what the day ahead holds, but it doesn’t know you either,” her mother always told her. An enchanting interlude that could tackle profound questions without seeming to.
