My joy, like a trench, is rooted in the tenderness of our presence—as a foundation, a base, a starting point. Being together. To let my anger rise, to voice it in front of you because I have every right to. To express it with you. To let it escape because it’s impossible to hold back, bursts of it, because it feels good, because we need it, because they’re legitimate and because letting them out might save us from what’s coming… It’s a play for three performers and smoke. Lots of smoke. It’s about protecting our joys with our teeth if we have to. It’s about how we don’t give up. We won’t give up.
My joy, like a trench, is the gentleness of our presence—as a base, as a foundation, as a starting point. Being together. To let my anger rise, to speak it in front of you because I have the right. To speak it with you. Letting go because it’s impossible to hold back, because it feels good, because we need it, because our anger is legitimate, and letting it out might just save us from what’s coming... It is a play for three performers and smoke. A lot of smoke. It is about protecting our joys with our teeth if necessary. It’s how we don’t give up. We won’t give up.
