This show is, above all, an intimate exploration of the base’s role in acrobatics: a role that is often misunderstood, sometimes even overlooked, yet essential. In the discipline of hand-to-hand acrobatics, the flyer who soars and twirls draws all eyes with their aerial movements. Yet behind every flyer stands a solid base, anchored to the ground, ensuring safety, bearing the weight, and taking risks. This show seeks to reverse this usual dynamic to highlight the base and their relationship with their partner. In this solo, the partner and flyer is a landing mat. A seemingly simple and ordinary object, it profoundly symbolizes the role of the base in the circus world. This mat becomes an analogy for the base artist: it absorbs falls, takes the impact, and acts as a constant partner, mirroring one another.

This piece is, above all, an intimate exploration of the role of the base in acrobatics—a role that is often misunderstood, sometimes even overlooked, yet fundamentally essential. In hand-to-hand acrobatics, the flyer, rising and spinning through the air, naturally draws everyone’s attention with their aerial movements. Behind every flyer stands a grounded and steady base, ensuring safety, absorbing weight, and embracing risk. This performance seeks to shift that familiar dynamic, placing the base and their relationship with their partner at the center of attention. In this solo, the partner—and flyer—is a landing mat. An object that may seem simple, yet one that deeply embodies the role of the base within the circus world. The mat becomes a metaphor for the base artist: it absorbs falls, takes on impact, and remains a constant presence, each reflecting the other.
