Nine Movements for a Fugitive is a story often left untold—that of the farming world; it is the struggle of a sister trying to give voice to her brother’s silences. On May 20, 2017, a gendarme killed Jérôme Laronze after nine days on the run. Guillaume Cayet has taken this “news item” and woven it into a modern tragedy. That of a man, Jérôme, a farmer, refusing to submit to the laws dictated by agribusiness. Blending theater and circus, this poetic and powerful performance forges a link between city and countryside, and attempts to reconcile the living.
"Nine Movements for an Escape" tells a story that is often silenced: that of the farming world. It follows a sister’s struggle to give voice to her brother’s silence. On May 20, 2017, a police officer shot and killed Jérôme Laronze after nine days on the run. Playwright Guillaume Cayet draws on this news story to craft a contemporary tragedy—the story of Jérôme, a farmer who refuses to submit to the constraints imposed by agribusiness. Blending theater and circus, this poetic and powerful piece builds a bridge between urban and rural worlds, seeking, in its own way, to restore a sense of connection with the living.
