Andrej, a recent graduate, is struggling to find a job; Martina, from a well-to-do background, dreams of an organic farm but is stuck in dead-end jobs; Mani, a brilliant academic, is unemployed; Freya, who was just laid off, longs for a comeback; and Peter, a homeless man, has become an expert in street marketing. All of them, often without realizing it, are engaged in a competition as vile as it is human for their survival. With a mischievous detachment, Jonas Hassen Khemiri chooses to recount, through five intertwined stories, the perversity of poverty and its devastating consequences on a personal level. With exemplary dramatic irony, he weaves together the fates of these characters so close to us. “Almost Equal To is a funny and biting contemporary comedy about the world of capitalism, its antiheroes, and our schizophrenic relationship with money.”

He intertwines the destinies of these characters, so close to us, with exemplary dramatic irony. “Presque égal à” is a sharp and funny contemporary comedy about the world of capitalism, its anti-heroes, and our schizophrenic relationship with money.
