Authors in Tandem - Street and Public Space Arts & Theater

Artists in Tandem - Street and Public Space Arts & Theater is an initiative coordinated by Artcena bringing together several cultural partners, which invites two artists—one from the street and public space, the other from theater—to share their creative visions and collaborate on a cross-disciplinary writing project.
Two duos have been selected this year. They will receive writing grants, and we will host them in residence in partnership withthe Espace des Arts for a period of work in public spaces. At the end of this experimental phase, each duo will present a 30-minute pilot performance during the 2024 Chalon dans la rue festival.

Public Derailment Brigades for Public Transportation (Performance)
Created for 2025
This project involves creating a series of short-form performances for public transit (city buses, trams, subways). These performances will take place from the moment the lines open until they close. There will be whispered texts for passengers waking up, acrobatics for crowded transit, cabaret acts for nighttime transit, and even quick performances during lunch breaks. The audience will be the line’s passengers. For the duration of a single trip, everyone will be able to experience a moment of theater, of urban poetry…

"We explore contemporary issues through the lens of the Western genre: conquest, territories, borders, duels, the law of the jungle... all concepts transposed into our daily lives, to understand what becomes of our identities, our languages, and our bodies in the vast marketplace of buying and selling. Why reenact the founding myths of the American Dream in today’s public sphere? What does this entail in terms of communities, freedoms, beliefs, dreams, and manifestos?"
