"The Origin of the World" is a documentary theater piece about parenthood.

What makes a good parent? How can we avoid feeling overwhelmed by parenthood? Why does this irresistible urge to have children persist despite all the pessimistic talk about the future? Why do certain taboos surrounding parenthood remain so prevalent? Why do we feel so defensive when anyone tries to question our parenting methods? Why is this topic—“our children”—so sensitive to us? How do we find the right balance between modesty and taboo? How do we overcome this immense fear of judgment? Since 2020, Raphaëlle and Charlotte have been working on the topic of parenting. In an effort to answer a mountain of questions and navigate the doubts, fears, and sometimes anger they themselves have experienced on a daily basis, they have spent three years collecting testimonials from women, men, and children.

The residency focuses on writing.

CAST: A Muerto Coco production conceived and performed by Raphaëlle Bouvier & Charlotte Perrin de Boussac (with Solal Bouvier-Simon making a special guest appearance). / With texts by Yasmine Blum, Charlotte Perrin de Boussac, Raphaëlle Bouvier, and numerous testimonies from women (collected online, by phone, from books, and documentary films—notably “Tu enfanteras dans la douleur” directed by Ovidie) / With the invaluable choreographic collaboration of Leonardo Montecchia (La Mentira company) / The core artistic members of Muerto Coco—namely Maxime Potard and Roman Gigoi-Gary—will, of course, provide valuable outside perspectives throughout the creative process.
