Pudding Theater

assumption

March 11–17, 2024

Artistic genre: Street theater
Year the show was created: 2024

Hypothesis features seven artists on stage who are questioning, seeking to understand, and processing the flood of information, visits, readings, and encounters. Seven artists who are their scientific doubles—who, for their part, have some answers, even if they’re not sure of anything. Seven artists who are their prehistoric doubles, living their lives simply in their present time, 40,000 years ago. Hypothesis is asking the question, “What does it mean to be human?” Hypothesis is not necessarily finding the answer, but telling a story—a lost story; a story of humanity(ies).

Goals for the residency: Build our third and final act, refine the first two, and bring everything into balance. Work on our theatricality in movement. Experiment with different performance spaces to streamline our constraints. Continue to explore the relationships between our three theatrical styles. Experiment in front of an audience.
